Ultrasound

Description

An ultrasound scan builds up a picture of part of the inside of the body using sound waves of a frequency above the audible range of the human ear.  As sound waves are used rather than radiation, the procedure is believed to be completely safe.

Ultrasound can be used to study blood flow and to detect any narrowing or blocked blood vessels, for example, in the neck.

Ultrasound scans usually take between 10-20 minutes.  The results and images will be sent to your referring clinician within 24 hours.
