MRI

Description

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.  An MRI scanner uses a strong magnetic field to produce high-quality, cross sectional images of internal body structures. The images are generated using superconducting magnets and pulsed radio waves.  The MRI scanner can be used on all parts of your body, including your head, without using radiation.

The scanner users a strong magnetic field and radiowaves to measure the magnetic properties of the body’s tissues.  Using a computer, this information is converted into a black and white picture.

Your scan will take approximately 15 – 60 minutes.  In that time, you’ll be able to listen to music, but will need to remain as still as possible.  The machine makes a loud knocking noise when it’s scanning – you may feel vibrations under your body. The procedure is painless and you’ll be in contact with the radiographer at all times during the scan.

Your results are reported by a specialist Consultant Radiologist within 48 hours.
