Our continuous investment programme ensures that the hospital is equipped with the latest surgical and medical technology. The hospital has four operating theatres including two purpose built theatres for orthopaedics, each equipped with 'laminar flow' clean air system to minimise the risk of post operative infections. A high dependency/intensive care unit, staffed by a specialist team of nurses, is also available for post-surgery recovery if required.
High-tech diagnostic imaging facilities, such as MRI, CT and ultrasound, enable us to perform the most up to date interventional and diagnostic procedures. For improved diagnosis of breast cancer we have now introduced digital mammography.
The Hospital has some 300 consultants working in more than 40 different specialties. This enables most patients to be investigated and treated under one roof. A full list of the specialties is shown on the Specialties page.
With such extensive medical facilities on site, many of our consultants hold out-patient sessions in the hospital's well-equipped consulting rooms. Patients can therefore receive all their care, from initial consultation to follow-up, in one convenient location. A number of Specialist Clinics are available such as a clinic for irritable bowel syndrome and a ‘one stop’ osteoporosis clinic. The highly regarded Laser Dermatology Unit offers an exceptional range of skin treatments.
There is also a pharmacy where prescription drugs and over-the-counter items can be purchased and ready access to physiotherapists and hand therapists.
Using modern minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques and equipment, recovery times are significantly improved. This means that even complex treatments can now be carried out without requiring an overnight stay.
Our day care facilities provide treatment in comfortable surroundings. There is also a state of the art Endoscopy Suite with its own recovery area.

Individual patient rooms ensure each patients privacy and comfort, as well as minimising the risk of hospital acquired infections. Patient rooms are equipped with air conditioning, en-suite bathroom, TV, satellite channels, radio and direct dial telephone. There is a dedicated ward for orthopaedic patients, in which each room has a large purpose designed bathroom with a walk in shower.
To add to the comfort of your stay, we can arrange little extras such as daily newspapers, magazines and any special dietary requirements you require. And, of course, your visitors are welcome at any time, as soon as you are ready to receive them.
We ensure that our consultants and other clinical specialists meet the highest standards before they can practice at The Lister Hospital. Most hold senior positions at the leading London teaching hospitals and many are recognised nationally and internationally as experts in their fields.
Resident doctors are available 24 hours a day to provide on-going care and emergency cover. Our consultants are also supported by our team of highly specialised paramedical professionals.
You will be looked after by a team of nurses with specialist skills to support your particular clinical needs. Because they also understand the anxieties involved with any hospital stay, you and your family can rely on their care and reassurance. We provide our nurses with a comprehensive training programme to ensure that we are continually updating their professional skills.
