The Lister Hospital is 25 years old!
The Lister Hospital overlooking Chelsea Bridge and the River Thames was opened on the 14th September 1985.
Named after Sir Joseph Lister, who is acknowledged as one of the pioneers of modern surgery, The Lister Hospital quickly established a reputation as one of London’s leading acute private hospitals.
Over time it established an international reputation for the high standard of medicine practiced by some of the Capital’s leading doctors and consultants, supported by highly experienced nursing and technical staff.
Within a few years, The Lister Fertility Clinic was opened, helping to build the hospital’s reputation as a centre of excellence for women’s health. Orthopaedics, urology, vascular surgery services were also established early on and the hospital quickly became recognised as a patient focussed centre equipped with the latest diagnostic technology.
25 years on, The Lister Hospital has developed a range of services aimed at providing a more responsive service for patients, their GPs and consultants.
Continuing to grow and just like Sir Joseph Lister’s commitment to healthcare, The Lister Hospital opened Chelsea Outpatient Centre at 280 Kings Road and the Chelsea Consulting Rooms at 2 Lower Sloane Street.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, James Barr said that the success of the hospital was due to the support of patients and their doctors from the surrounding area and the dedication of staff at the hospital.
“We are tremendously grateful for the support of the community and from the medical profession, GPs, consultants and many other medical professionals and the help, support and yes - sometimes forthright opinions, they have given and continue to give us here at The Lister,” he said.
“The support we have received has enabled us to win investment from our parent company, HCA International and in addition to the many millions of pounds we have been given in recent years to improve facilities, we are looking forward to more new developments in the future,” said Mr Barr.
