The Lister has a new Hand and Wrist Unit catering for the increasing number of patients suffering from conditions caused by arthritis, fractures, trauma to tendons and other soft tissue, to work related problems and sports injuries.
The service is unique in London and offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of upper limb conditions and injuries. The team incorporates plastic and orthopaedic surgeons, supported by senior occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
Kim Griffiths, Clinical Specialist and Lead Therapist who has responsibility for the operational side of the service said, "We have seen an increasing demand for our services over the past few years. Most of this comes from workplace induced injuries and of course sports injuries."
"At the Lister we have the ability to treat all conditions and to formulate therapy and rehabilitation programmes. Apart from producing custom made splints for those who need them, patients have access to the Primus Rehabilitation System, a computer based rehabilitation system which allows us to design functional movement programmes for patients with severe problems."
